Call To Action Day Reflection

Throughout my whole life, I've been shown that those who are mentally challenged are different than I am. I was so happy to learn that what I've been shown my whole life was wrong. They loved to sing Karaoke! I definitely would've sang "September" or something else if we had more time. Janette sang "Como La Flor" by Selena and Daniel sang "Summer Nights" from "Grease". I didn't think that I could hold a conversation with them but I was wrong. Even though most of them didn't know the words, they still sang along. I learned that Janette was from South City and once went to Jefferson High. Then, when we went to the gym to play basketball, where I learned that Matt is great at free throws! Every time I passed the ball back to him, he'd move back a little each more and make the free throw. This event taught me that those who are mentally challenged are more capable of doing things than I thought they were. One thing that I wish I was more like them in was the amount of happiness they had. When we were interacting with them, their faces would light up like a light bulb. I remember talking with Daniel about Scooby Doo and how Scooby warned Shaggy about the Black Knight behind him. He looked so happy just talking about Scooby Doo and Shaggy and the Black Knight. I wish we could all be as happy as Daniel is in our daily lives.

Blog Post#3- Results Of Your Happiness Journal

September was an alright month for me. A lot of things happened, some good, some bad. The best day for me had to be the 21st. I started off the day right by listening  to "September" by Earth, Wind, and Fire. I set it up to be my alarm in the morning. The first lyric is "Do you remember? The 21st night of September?" Then I went with my mom and older sister to Elephant Bar. When I got there I ordered a mango swirl with kids pizza because that's what I always get when I go to a restaurant. After that, I hung out with my friends Torch, Isai, Rigo, Jackie, and Dave. We went and got food and then chilled at Jackie's house. Out of all the days of the month, the 21st was my favorite. Nothing went wrong and I wasn't too tired or drowsy. I think everything clicked that day because of two things: 1, it was a Friday, and 2, I got to go home. Being in college is great and all, but like the saying goes, "Home is where the Heart is."
